The Artist Behind the Work
Brian "Boogie" Black is an artist with a background in graphic design, motion graphics, fine art, and multimedia. After graduating from Punahou, he earned a BA in Design from UCLA and studied architecture at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. Following this, he moved into motion graphics and early computer animation. As a pioneer in interactive user experiences and digital media, he founded Black Light Design, which specializes in design and production services. Boogie currently teaches glassblowing at Punahou, coaches at Iolani and focuses on fine art. His primary mediums include glass, film, photography, resin, illustration, drawing, furniture, and surfboard shaping. His work explores unconventional materials and processes, driven by a passion for creativity and connection.
